Bomb Threat Procedure

Employee Procedure:

If you receive a bomb-threat call, remain as calm as possible and proceed as follows:

  1. Record the time of the call.
  2. Keep the caller talking.
  3. Record your perception of the following:

    • sex of the caller;
    • approximate age of caller;
    • origin of call (phone booth, long distance, etc.) or phone number if displayed;
    • caller's voice level & tone and any unique qualities;
    • any background noises;
  4. Motion / e-mail someone else to call 911 immediately.
  5. Engage the caller in conversation. Record caller's exact words while talking. Ask the following questions:

    • When is the device going to explode? How much time is remaining?
    • What is the location of the device?
    • What type of device?
      • Chemical
      • Biological
      • Explosive
    • What does it look like?
    • How do you de-activate the device?
    • Where are you now?
    • Caller's name & address?
